Overview

SM Ascender® is a versatile rail-based racking system designed to optimize residential and commercial rooftop solar installations throughout Mexico. The system delivers the flexibility, efficiency, and reliability needed to simplify installation and maximize project value. The innovative multipurpose rail serves as both a tilt leg and structural rail creating a streamlined solution that reduces material waste, lowers installation costs, and helps installers complete projects faster.

Engineered for Versatility

A single rail profile is used throughout the entire SM Ascender® system, simplifying inventory management and installation.

The SM Ascender Rail is multipurpose, functioning as both a tilt leg and structural rail within the system.

Available in a 4.70 m (185 in) rail length to easily adapt to large-format modules.

Adjustable Elevation & Tilt Angles

Front elevation adjustment up to 50.8 cm provides added flexibility for varying rooftop conditions and project requirements.

Supports tilt angles from 10° to 25° depending on system configuration.

Optimized for portrait arrays in both one-row or two-row system layouts.

Faster, Simpler Installation

Designed for installation using a single 1/2” tool to help streamline labor in the field.

Packaged with all required hardware to reduce SKU complexity and limit the number of boxes on the roof.

Fewer parts and simplified assembly allow for faster installation times.

Strength & Compatibility

Pre-assembled tilt plates and beam clips increase structural integrity and simplify installation by eliminating the need for additional components like the L-foot.

Compatible with Unirac Pro Series Hidden End Clamp and Universal AF clamps.

Universal clamps support module frame sizes 30–46 mm, simplifying installation across projects.

System Components

To build a fully functional SM ASCENDER® system, the following components are required:

Rails
Ascender Rail

The Ascender rail is multipurpose, functioning as both a tilt leg and structural rail within the system. A sleek, low-profile rail engineered for regions with minimal snow load requirements. Delivers up to 6-foot spans while keeping weight and cost to a minimum.

Ascender Splice

The structural splice joins, aligns and electrically bonds two pieces of rail into a single length of rail. Forms a rigid splice joint, 10 inches long, assembled with bonding hardware. Use 4 screws per splice.

Clamps
Mid Clamp – Universal AF

Offers ½” row spacing. 30mm – 46mm modules. Perfect balance between aesthetics, module gaps & engineering benefits. Hexagonal hardware is designed to help align clamps with module frames for easier installation.

Mid Clamp – Standard Series

Offers ¼” row spacing. The smallest module gap for great aesthetics and module density on the roof. Built-in washer keeps the clamp and bolt upright for easy assembly. Low-cost, simple design. SKUs are available for different module thicknesses between 30-51mm.

End Clamp – Standard Series

Built-in washer keeps the clamp and bolt upright for easy assembly. Available in three sizes to fit module frame heights from 30mm to 51mm. Extends 1½” from the module edge.

Provides an aesthetic end clamp along with a twist-and-lock design for quick engagement. Supports module frame heights from 30mm to 46mm.

Pro Series Hidden End Clamp

A hidden fastener delivers the cleanest aesthetic. This pre-assembled clamp secures the module to the rail at the flange and sits flush with the module edge.

Structural Support
Beam Clip

The pre-assembled beam clip is a structural component for cross-bracing, connecting the East-West beam to the North-South rail on two row system configurations.

ALT BEAM CLIP

Pre-assembled alternate beam clip is a structural component for cross-bracing, connecting the East-West beam to the tilt legs on one-row system configurations.

ASCENDER Tilt L-Foot

The Ascender Tilt L-Foot assembly is used to achieve the tilt angle of the system and must always be installed with the used with the alternate beam clip.

Tilt Plate Assembly

A structural component that connects the tilt legs with the North-South rail and the North-South bracing with the tilt legs.

L-Foot Serrated

This L-Foot assembly is used as an attachment to secure the tilt legs to the pitched and metal roof attachments and as a East-West brace to the tilt leg.

Microinverter Mounting Bolt

Bonds modules to ground with a simple T-nut install, just drop in and turn 90° to lock in place. Low-profile design integrates with microinverter bolt for a clean, secure connection.

Wire Mgmt Clips

Unirac offers a full range of Heyco SunRunner® clips for clean, secure cable management across solar installations. Designed to fit a wide variety of extruded aluminum profiles, these clips route cables neatly along module frames or mounting channels. Smooth edges protect cable insulation, while locking tabs ensure a firm hold. Each clip features a screwdriver slot for easy repositioning during or after installation.

Grounding & Bonding

Unirac offers trusted solutions for system grounding using the WEEB® Lug or ILSCO lay-in lug. Each features dimpled washers that pierce the rail’s anodized coating to establish a secure electrical bond. A solid copper wire connects to the lug and is routed to deliver a dependable final ground connection—ensuring safety, code compliance, and long-term system performance.
